Make examples for "population, sample and variable". Bring these to the upcoming lab and discuss these.
Population is a whole set of objects, things, people etc.
Sample is a representative, randomized set of a population, if it is required.
Variable is any measurable that changes it value over time.

Assignment details are as follows:

You have to select an article from the ones given on the blog. Then study it thoroughly and write down a summary of all kind of statistics applied in the article. You have to describe and comment on hypothesis, research design, data collection, data presentation and data analysis. Also, suggest if possible, some improvement in the article in terms of collection, presentation and analysis.

Assignments have 10 % weight-age towards your final grade.

Topics: Scope of biostatistics, use of statistics in biology, misuses of statistics and how to find a misuse; terminology in biostatistics: population and sample, variable or factor, classes, groups, class limits, boundaries; scales of measurement; stages of research; types of data and methods of data collection, data collection, summarizing information and presentation; measures of central tendency: computation of mean, median and mode from grouped and ungrouped data; measures of dispersion: computation of variance, standard deviation, formation of tables; probability: simple probability: conditional – mutually exclusive and non-exclusive, independent and dependent.
